The Allures 44 is a sailboat designed by the French maritime architect bureau Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design together with Franck Darnet also from France in the mid 2000.

Hull

The hull is made of aluminium. Aluminum is strong and forgiving. Where an impact on a fiberglass hull will result in major gelcoat damage and possible cracking, an aluminum hull will probably only have a scratch or a small bend. The only concern is electrolysis. Ensure that you have proper sacrificial anodes installed. Finally, aluminium is not prone to osmosis.


Interior

The boat is equipped with 2/3/4 cabins and 550 liters (145 US gallons, 120 imperial gallons) fresh water capacity.


Rig

The Allures 44 is built with a fractional rig. The sail area for the mailsail + jib is 85.7 m2 (922.5 ft2). A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a gennaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed.


Keel

The Allures 44 has been built with different keel alternatives.

Fin keel

One option is a fin keel. The fin keel is the most common keel and provides splendid manoeuvrability. The downside is that it has less directional stability than a long keel.

The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 1.89 - 1.99 meter (6.20 - 6.50 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

CentreBoard

Another option is a centreboard keel. A centreboard keel is a pivoting lifting keel, allowing to sail both coastal and inland waters.

Allures 44 can enter even shallow marinas as the draft is just about 0.98 - 1.08 meter (3.22 - 3.52 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.


Engine

The fuel tank has a capacity of 550 liters (145 US gallons, 120 imperial gallons).

The boat may be equipped with an inboard diesel engine at 55 hp (40 kW). Calculated max speed is about 7.5 knots

The transmission is a saildrive.
