The Privilège 42 is a large catamaran designed by the French maritime architect Marc Lombard in the mid nineties. Less than 100 boats have been built. The Privilège 42 is built by the French yard Jeantot Marine.

Hull

The hull is made of fibreglass. A hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.

Interior

The boat is equipped with 4 cabins, 499 liters (131 US gallons, 109 imperial gallons) fresh water capacity and toilet facility.

Rig

The Privilège 42 is built with a fractional rig. A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a gennaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed.

The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 2.31 - 2.41 meter (7.58 - 7.88 ft) dependent on the load.

Engine

The fuel tank has a capacity of 405 liters (106 US gallons, 89 imperial gallons).

Privilège 42 may be equipped with dual inboard Volvo Penta MD2030 diesel engines at 60 hp (44 kW).

The transmission is a shaft drive. A shaft drive will in the long run require less maintenance than other types of drive e.g. a sail drive.
